Dr. Prakash Patel
Founder & Medical Director, Smyrna Pulmonary and Sleep Associates
MD, MBA, FCCP, FAASMDr. Prakash Patel is the founder of Smyrna Pulmonary and Sleep Associates, a specialty practice he established in 2006 that has grown to include more than ten providers serving patients across Middle Tennessee. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonology, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine.
Dr. Patel completed his Internal Medicine residency at East Tennessee State University (1999–2002) and his fellowship in Pulmonology, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine at the University of Florida, Gainesville (2006). He also earned a Physician Executive MBA from the Haslam College of Business, University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He is credentialed at several regional hospitals, including TriStar Stonecrest Medical Center, TriStar Skyline Medical Center, Vanderbilt Tullahoma Harton Hospital, Vanderbilt Bedford Hospital, TriStar Hendersonville, and Lincoln Medical Center. At TriStar Stonecrest, Dr. Patel has served in multiple leadership roles, including Chair of the Department of Medicine, Credentialing Committee Chair, President of the Medical Staff, Board Member, and Chief Medical Officer (2020–2024).
As Medical Director of AASM-accredited sleep centers in Smyrna, Tullahoma, and Fayetteville, Dr. Patel oversees comprehensive sleep diagnostics and treatment programs. He also leads lung nodule and lung cancer screening initiatives at TriStar Stonecrest and TriStar Skyline, with advanced clinical expertise in endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), navigational bronchoscopy, and robotic bronchoscopy for early lung cancer detection. Dr. Patel’s commitment to excellence has been recognized with numerous honors, including the HCA Healthcare Frist Humanitarian Award for Physicians, one of the organization’s highest distinctions, honoring his compassion, service, and dedication to patient care. He is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP) and a Fellow of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (FAASM), recognizing his leadership, scholarship, and contributions to both pulmonary and sleep medicine.
